Demos & results

It was the task to benchmark the quality of results achieved by NETQUEST with respect to an already implemented fiber optic access network for 37 connection objects in Cologne-Ossendorf, Germany.

The left plot shows the basic geoinformation data for the considered domain - i.e. streets, sidewalks, buildings, crossings and private property. The dimension of the domain is 1200 x 1700 meters. The land use classes have been recorded with an resolution of one meter in square.

The GIS node automatically process the  geodata and link them with according specific implementation costs to a cost raster. This raster measures the costs for implementing one meter of cable anywhere in the considered domain.

Based on this raster a weighed network graph has been constructed, which represents the basis of succeeding optimization in the computational node.

The left plot shows the cost optimized implementation of the access network computed with NETQUEST.

This result proves a cost saving of approximately 30% with respect to the already realized cable laying.

In order to show the validity of achieved results the costs of the realized cable laying have been recalculated on the basis of the cost raster. We showed a worst case deviation of 5% with respect to the real world costs.
