Geoinformation

Geoinformation – Digitally exploring the world

We offer 24 study places for our Bachelor program that comprises 6 semesters. Students work in small groups, and receive personal supervision. The teaching methodology focuses on innovative concepts such as project work, or problem based learning. The main areas of study are Geoinformation technologies, computer science and mathematics, but also business and management, legal aspects, and foreign languages.

More than half of all businesses use precise and up to date information related to the acquisition, analysis and display of spatial contexts. Aside from Nano- and Biotechnology, Geoinformation is considered the most important industry in the future.

As our graduate from the School of Geoinformation you will have excellent career possibilities in a broad variety of application fields such as: safety-, hazard-, and disaster management, Geomarketing for tourism and leisure, urban and regional planning, environmental protection.

The highlight of the program is an internship in the 6th semester that lasts between 12 to 15 weeks. We have worldwide cooperation partners for these internships: from Germany to Brazil, from Ireland to Australia. All of a sudden, the work with an international expert team becomes reality - international experience as a student. This internship offers opportunities to work, e.g., in the following areas:

  • analysis of coral bleaching at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia
  • safety analysis for wind energy at the borders between Carinthia and Styria
  • implementation of multi-model traffic networks in Klagenfurt
  • development of 3-d models for visualization of potential flooding at the Rhein
